Bucerias is a little village just 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, along the beautiful shore of the Banderas Bay. It’s also one of the main destinations of the much-touted Riviera Nayarit, and with good reason. Here is why…
You know when you were back home dreaming about moving, retiring or simply having a relaxing vacation at a sleepy Mexican beach town? Well, if you’ve been in Cancun, Cabo, or Puerto Vallarta lately, you might know that they are all but sleepy. Nowadays, you go to those places to have fun, enjoy an outstanding nightlife or an exciting adventure vacation. And Bucerias is the place where you go to feel that peace and tranquility associated with that image of sleepy Mexican beach towns.
However, that’s not to say that there is nothing to do in this magic town. An extraordinary gourmet scene has naturally evolved on its main road, Lazaro Cardenas street, where you will find a wide array of outstanding restaurants just a few steps away from the beach. Lazaro Cardenas is also home to a rich diversity of unique and interesting art galleries, which provides this little town with a sophisticated flair that other similar destinations lack.
Then in what could be dubbed as Bucerias downtown, there is this picturesque main square, just as you may have imagined when you were dreaming about relaxing in a little known Mexican town; with its church overlooking the Pacific Ocean, bars and restaurants surrounding the traditional square filled with vendors and Mexican families strolling around enjoying the warm weather and the spectacular sunsets.
But the best thing of Bucerias is with no doubt, that beautiful stretch of white sand beach that starts in the South right where the big Nuevo Vallarta’s resorts end, and goes all the way up to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Miles and miles of the most pristine beach you can imagine, and with one wonderful and unexpected asset: the wind. Bucerias beach is home to the most developed kite-surf scene in Mexico. It even hosts a Wind Festival year after year.
In recent years, a series of trendy beach clubs have been opening in Bucerias, making it even more attractive as a place to relax and enjoy the best that Mexico has to offer, namely its amazingly beautiful beaches, and that fantastic weather all year round.
So, now you know, Bucerias sure is a small and sleepy Mexican village, but with a lot of things to do. And if you ever feel like there is a bit too much tranquility going around, you can always visit nearby towns such as Punta de Mita, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, or even Sayulita and San Pancho, so the fun options that Riviera Nayarit offer to its visitors are wide and varied.
