Our friends’ trip landed here again. Nobody suggested anywhere else. And layout was smart — communal areas plus private retreats. We spent a day on exploring tide pools — absolutely worth it. One meal that stood out: guacamole the cook made tableside. Staff appeared when needed and vanished when not. Worth the flight.

Ikal’s architecture uses local stone and reclaimed wood throughout. The compound sits within Punta Mita’s gates — secure and quiet. Chef prepared regional Nayarit dishes with real skill. We surfed La Lancha and played Nicklaus. Albriet arranged whale watching. The property has a contemplative quality rare inside the gates.

There’s a stillness to this house that I wasn’t expecting. The architecture creates it — clean proportions, natural materials, views that draw your eye outward. We meditated on the terrace one morning and it was the most present I’ve felt in years. The cook made simple, beautiful food. We surfed, we golfed, we paddleboarded at dawn when the Pacific was glass. Eight of us for a yoga retreat and the house was built for it — spaces for practice, spaces for silence, spaces for gathering. The pool at sunset is a spiritual experience.
