Sian Ka’an Villa Rentals

Established in 1986 as the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, it became part of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program in that same year. Just one year later, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This all means that the area is committed to the most strict environmental standards worldwide. You might ask, how a biosphere reserve like this one offer real estate and vacation rentals opportunities?

Can you imagine living in a biosphere reserve of 1.3 million acres, stretching over 120 kilometers from north to south, and a human population estimated at around only 2,000 inhabitants? Well, that’s what Sian Ka’an, literally translated as “the place where the sky is born,” has to offer. This place has been called “the most exclusive and ecofriendly neighborhood in the world,” and now you’ll see why that is not a hyperbole.

The MAB program challenges Sian Ka’an to “find a way to integrate human activities without compromising other forms of life contained within its boundaries,” and that’s where the decision to develop the area came from. Well, development is too much of a word for what’s been going on in Sian Ka’an. The area is strictly residential, but you won’t find plenty of properties, as it is extremely low density and all homes are high end and ecofriendly. Each residential lot must have at least 100 meters of beach, which means that your nearest neighbors will be at least 100 meters away and hidden behind lush vegetation. Still not convinced? Well, let me talk you through this piece of paradise on Earth. Imagine having on one side some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, ones where the sand is truly white and powdery, and the water is really turquoise blue. In contrast, on the other side, you have a spectacular mangrovefilled lagoon, and a deep protected jungle.

There are 23 ancient Mayan sites; the second largest reef system in the world runs parallel to the beach, and in some places, visitors can actually swim to it and enjoy the underwater marvels around it. There are over 300 species of birds in the area, and have we mention that you can dock your boat on the lagoon and practice regulated fishing? The reserve also contains three areas exclusively dedicated to scientific research. No wonder that several celebrities have chosen Sian Ka’an as their tropical retreat, here we are talking about something that cannot be replicated in other parts of Mexico or the world because what makes it so unique is not the project, the architecture style, or the prices, but the natural surroundings that are impossible to match. All that said, let’s now take a look at the investment opportunities still available in this paradiselike corner of the Riviera Maya. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere has been developing at a slow pace, and there are lots of lands located in strategic spots.
