Gay Friendly Vacation Guide for Cancun

Gay Guide Cancun

Cancun Has Become A Gay-Friendly Resort

Although relatively new, Cancun has quickly gained almost legendary status as the top tourist destination in Mexico and as a top destination worldwide. This all came about because Cancun has such beautiful white sand beaches and multi-colored Caribbean waters. In the seventies, the state tourism agency, Fonatur, decided that it was the ideal place to develop a tourism mecca and use an overused term. So that’s what it did, and that’s what it has become, and you can understand why.

I always feel a slight nostalgia when I imagine what it was like before, and a slight regret that I couldn’t get to know it when it was a simple fishing village, just as you might meet a great person and wonder what they were like as a child. But my rational side tells me that this place just had to be made accessible to as many people as possible. Fortunately, it was developed by a state agency that looked out for many of the ecological aspects of development.

The big upside is that you can now enjoy the natural environment in a destination that offers all kinds of fun in every way imaginable. The tours are great, the water activities fantastic, the accommodations and facilities are excellent, and the nightlife is… well, famous. So easy to get to and with such a range of everything, Cancun is as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it. And then there’s the ‘rainbow effect.’ For whatever reason, Cancun has become a gay and gay-friendly resort vying with Puerto Vallarta for the title of the top gay destination in Latin America.

That in itself tells you as much as you need to know about the ambiance and the tourist infrastructure of the place. Gay beaches, bars, clubs, accommodations, and tours abound; there’s no need to go seeking out that one gay venue; they’re everywhere, so a gay guide is largely superfluous because you’ll bump into what you’re looking for anyway; but here goes.

For a relaxed or lively drink with no cover, before the club scene kicks off, Picante Bar has plenty of shows and great drink specials, and you can find it on Cancun Street just off Tulum Avenue. Picante hums until five, but if you want to take it up a notch, try Karamba, a gay nightclub downtown on Tulum Avenue, with a wild gay party atmosphere and non-stop dancing until the early hours. Both venues have been around forever and have a fine pedigree. Playa Delfines is the main beach in Cancun, and although it is obviously not exclusively gay, it has a gay vibe depending on the time of day.

For a luxury private villa rental, try Villa Albatros, a luxury beachfront vacation home in Cancun Hotel Zone, boasting spectacular ocean views, a gorgeous swimming pool, six bedrooms, six bathrooms a range of luxury amenities. Situated in Cancun’s hotel zone, this exquisite Riviera Maya luxury vacation villa is in an excellent location to get the very most out of the beaches, nightlife, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and activities of Cancun, and is just twenty minutes from Cancun International Airport.
