Casa Madera is an original rental villa located on a beach of Tulum, only 8 minutes away from the city, and 2.3 miles away from the archeological site. It is only a 45-minute drive to Playa del Carmen, and Cancun is just 2 hours away. You will be stunned by the scenery. This spectacular house stands exactly where lush, tropical vegetation finishes giving place to majestic rocks that guard the Caribbean coast. The house itself seems to be in perfect harmony with the surrounding; raw but still luxurious style, vernacular materials, and living space united with nature and pre-Columbian culture.

Casa Madera is not only beautiful but also highly functional and all the living spaces are there to make your stay comfortable and worry-free. The living room has been decorated with lively colors and boasts its panoramic views. Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and if you come in a bigger group, space can be expanded with the inclusion of 3 double-bed climate-controlled cabanas with private bathrooms. This original villa also has an open-air dining space, fully-equipped kitchenette with a separate service access, and common bathroom. Outside the house, you will find a large plunge pool with amenities, barbecue setup complete in stones and close to the water, two beach palapas with hanging sun beds. Multilevel terraces add additional charm and beauty to Casa Madera.

Among the services available with the house you will find a private chef and a concierge. The price also includes WIFI connection and Beach Club access. Papaya Playa Restaurant with traditional Mayan cuisine, seafood, and live DJ sessions is close to your house and the ocean. Casa Madera is part of Papaya Playa Project which apart from making your stay unforgettable aims to preserve and promote the indigenous culture, knowledge and skills. Some arts and crafts, typical of the Quintana Roo area, that decorate the house are listed in a special catalogue and can be purchased during your stay.

The apartment is incredible, in an excellent location, the details as the furniture, with an excellent taste, the rooftop leaves you speechless, excellent to spend some time living with BBQ and jacuzzi, the condo is very quiet, the staff is very Friendly, the bedrooms very comfortable, we never needed anything. They were always on the lookout at any time. I will definitely return to the apartment, 100% recommended.

Amazing Retreat - but get the right room

The Papaya Playa Project found it's way on to my map because it was part of SPG's design hotel collection. I love design hotels, I don't love how they don't always play well with SPG, but around Christmas time all of Tulum is very expensive to visit, and this hotel keeps the points program the exact same. Except that it requires a minimum five night stay. I happily agreed to a five night stay to get out of the NYC area and enjoy some of Mexico's coast. Tulum is the place to be in Mexico right now. Everyone i knew had been there or was going there. It was awesome, it was fun, I was so happy to be in Tulum. The Papaya playa project maybe isn't the fanciest hotel in Tulum, but it's a cool spot with great food, great drinks, and awesome rooms. However, make sure you're in one of the newer rooms, the old rooms are really really old! We were not originally in one of the newer rooms, and our room had mosquito netting, an iguana that made friends with us, and a pretty bad shower. The view was awesome, but that was the only redeeming factor. Because I'm a platinum SPG member I was able to upgrade to a newer room, just without the view. This upgrade was HUGE, and let's be real, the beach is still like 50 steps away. The room design was so cool, and the personal pool that we had was awesome! I'd stay here again when I come to Tulum, the parties are awesome, the food is great, and the staff is super friendly! It's not a place for your family, and not a place if you're a little older, but if you want a good time and a cool place to stay, this is the place to be!

I was a little worried about staying here, as some of the reviews are less than favorable, but my friend and I couldn't have been happier with our experience there. There's so much attention to detail. Phenomenal food and drinks, comfy bed, beautiful surroundings. It's the jungle, so yes, there's bugs, but that's just part of the experience. We stayed in a jungle casita with a plunge pool. The room was spacious, and elegant and clean, the AC worked great. The beach did have a bunch of seaweed, but that's no fault of the hotel (though there were constantly workers trying to clean it up.) We just walked down the beach a bit to find some clearer water to swim in. A very kind and responsive staff. We would definitely stay here again!
