My Indiana Jones Movie at the Riviera Maya adventure park Xplor!
Cancun and the Riviera Maya are a world-class setting for an unforgettable honeymoon, family trip, or friendly reunion. Thanks to the ideal mix of lush landscapes, tropical wildlife, high-octane entertainment, and eco-themed parks, tourists find the exotic environment they crave during their holidays.
Our aim at Villa Experience Mexico is to give you objective reviews of the most popular attractions you will find in Mexican stores. This way, you can design your holidays to suit your taste in advance of your trip and avoid the time-consuming task of browsing through dozens of websites. If you are thinking of visiting one of the many eco-themed parks in the Riviera Maya and are unsure which one would suit you better, you have come to the right place.
First things first. Xcaret, Xel-Ha, and Xplor are the three siblings in the eco-park family that has become the flagship of the Riviera Maya attractions. Xcaret offers the best of natural and cultural Mexico, Xel-Ha is the biggest natural aquarium globally, while Xplor is the park to go and take your Indiana Jones out for a day. Xplor is designed to pump up your adrenaline levels and, therefore, not for the dreamy types. Since I had a free ticket, I made the most of it and imagined I was Indiana Jones searching for my Holy Grail and speeded on my amphibious wheels as if I was in a race against time for the wanted trophy.
We are not keen on heights but decided Xplor was the ideal environment to face our fears and zip-line above the jungle. After all, you don’t get so many security certificates for anything: awards from international associations in Holland and the UK read like the kind of guarantee I wanted to have before playing Tarzan for a day. If you change your mind or your heart rate goes over the roof at the moment of truth, you can stay behind and rest while you get an energy-boost at El Troglodita, the buffet restaurant where you will find healthy food and drinks available throughout the day. Every activity starts and ends around a central area known as “The Heart,” and you can always choose which ones to do.
In my view, the contrast between the adrenaline rushes you get from fast driving or zip-lining and the perfect tranquility you enjoy while rafting along the underground rivers is the trademark of a successful adventure-themed park. It feels like riding an emotional roller coaster where you are stretched between alternate states of fear and euphoria, as it happens in any good action flick. In this movie, sometimes, you are the lead, sometimes the spectator. But one thing is for sure; you are always under the spotlight, so don’t forget to smile and sail on!
