Latin America turned out to be a fast growing region for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) market especially in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. However, with the economic crisis being much stronger in the first two countries, Mexico is now taking a leading role in the development of LGBT marketing for the Latin America, especially in the tourist industry.
The latest research carried out by the top LGBT marketing agency “Out Now” shows that the gay market has grown in Mexico by 6% since 2012 and reached 71 billion USD of annual earnings in 2013. The tendency now is to boost the importance of the market with a wide array of organizations and companies. According to the new investigation that gathers data for the LGB2020 report, the Mexican LGBT market is growing constantly and is now the most interesting one for the businesses that want to increase their LGBT related earnings.

No wonder then, that Mexico will host various important international LGBT events this year starting with the Second LGBT Summit of the Americas 2014 taking place in Mexico City, March 13-14.
The LGBT summit of Americas will provide opportunities for collaboration between LGBT business leaders of some of the strongest economies in the Americas, such as Canada, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Uruguay. Programming is supported by U.S. Agency for International Development and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Another important LGBT event in Mexico this year is the 4th International LGBT Business Expo in Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit. The programming includes various seminars, workshops, conferences and exhibitions with the objective to define the LGBT business agenda across the Latin American region for the next year and the forthcoming future. The event will be held from June 12 to 14 in the CasaMagna Marriott Resort & Spa in Puerto Vallarta. It is the second time that Banderas Bay hosts the International LGBT Business Expo after the successful 2011 experience at the Presidente Intercontinental Resort Hotel.
The organization behind the event is LGBT Confex, Latin America’s specialist conference and exhibition producer focused on businesses in relation to LGBT people. After the first year, the annual International Business Expo doubled in scale and showed more than 85% satisfaction rating. This year they promise 1505 business meetings, with 38 sponsors and 108 exhibitors.
The participants of the 4th International LGBT Business Expo can choose between 5 platforms to get involved: tourism, corporate, technology, entrepreneur, and media. Among the participant companies you can find airlines, hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, car rental agencies, travel operators, travel agents, tourism boards, and various leading companies already serving the LGBT community, as well as many other businesses interested in increasing their opportunities at this particular market related to banking, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, IT, clothing, alcohol, and many more. Looking at the participants’ logos you can easily recognize for example American Airlines, American Express, Bank of America, Las Vegas and others.
The LGBT consumer market in Latin America is now one of the most significant markets in the region with an immense potential and it is among the highest priorities of many companies in the continent.
