Listing Description

Casa Palapa is an eco-chic beachfront home completely open to the Caribbean breeze with colorful Mexican touches. It contains a grand suite upstairs, a 2-bedroom suite, and a double room at ground level. The grand suite has 2 spacious bedrooms, of which the master is graced with a double-king size bed. Each bedroom within the grand suite has its own private bathroom. They both share a private lounge appointed with a Jacuzzi overlooking a vast sun terrace. The 2-bedroom suite downstairs has 1 bedroom furnished with a king-size bed, while the second bedroom is a twin room with 2 single beds. The bedrooms connect through a lounge area and share 1 bathroom. The private double bedroom is located within a large space with a view, furnished with a double bed, and appointed with a bathroom. All rooms are minimalist in design, which enhances one’s appreciation of the surrounding nature. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow maximum light and a feeling of openness that brings the outside in and the inside out. The sliding windows open wide to catch the breeze and bring the guests into enjoyably physical contact with the astonishing infinity views in the early hours when the sun proclaims the new day from below the horizon.
The casa derives its name from an enormous palapa attached to it. Its open-sided thatch-roofed space covers 400 sq m. It serves as a giant lounge appointed with a full kitchen, generous 20-seater dining table, capacious wine rack, floor lamps, large sofas, colorful bean bag chairs, and other seating, all distributed around the area, forming functional and comfort clusters. Naturally illuminated during the day, at night, the light comes from 30 variously sized and shaped handmade wicker fixtures hanging from the 15m- high ceiling. The ocean side of Casa Palapa is given in its entirety to a rivulet-like swimming pool. Long and curving, it seamlessly connects the palapa to the house, where the pool commences with a lesser depth. It culminates where the beautifully massive staircase of the palapa takes one directly to the beach. At the rear of the Palapa House lies a pristine jungle gently transpierced with a pathway winding in between palm trees. A few steps away from Casa Palapa is an open tropical chapel standing on the rocks overlooking the ocean. It is spacious enough to seat a congregation of 105 persons. Considering its size and secluded location, Casa Palapa is an ideal accommodation for large ceremonies, events, or big family gatherings. Casa Palapa is the outcome of collaboration by several architects, engineers, landscape designers, and interior decorators united in their vision of an organic continuum, living in space intimately interlinked with nature and culture. These two forces charge the structure with extraordinary energies, physical and symbolic, the effect of which is pleasantly astonishing: experience nature and eco-luxury in Casa Palapa.

The amenities were basic and clean. The view of the ocean was amazing, and we loved watching the waves from our porch. The staff were very kind and really went out of their way to make you feel welcomed and at home. Overall we had a very nice time. However, if we knew that the hotel threw a party every weekend, and a huge one for the full moon, we would have stayed elsewhere. Considering that our room was a bit of a walk from the bar and restaurant, I was surprised by how loud the music was by us and that it played until 4 am into Sunday morning. Clearly, many of the guests came to the party, and their partying didn't end at 4 am. Needless to say, we did not sleep much our last night in Tulum. If I were 10 years younger, I would have loved the vibe and action. Again, the staff was so kind, and we really appreciated their attentiveness. And the price is perfect for the quality of the rooms. However, if you're looking to fall asleep at night to the lulling waves outside your window, this might not be your place.

I absolutely loved the papaya playa. From the moment you walk in, everyone is amicable! I went to many beach clubs and the one with the best pools and beach view is papaya Playa !!!! Also, we rented a cabana, and Santiago was our waiter and was definitely attentive without being annoying and extremely nice. He even helped me carry my four-year-old son from the pool after he fell asleep now, that’s service!! I can’t wait to be back! Also, I highly recommend you try the shrimp. Sliders!!!!

Overall staying at the PPP was an amazing experience. If you're into the rustic, no-frills vibe, then this is the place for you. The staff was amazing to us, accommodating, and the rooms were always clean. Having said that, it is a rustic boutique hotel, air conditioning is at a minimum, the rooms aren't very lit (no makeup lighting LOL), and you may find a few critters in your room. It would have been nice to have a mini-fridge in the room as the waters would get warm throughout the day. But again, I know this is a no-frills resort so you can't expect too much. Funny enough, the Wi-Fi was fast no matter where you were in the resort! There were enough outlets in the room, I know some other guests complained about that, but we were fine. We stayed in the oceanfront casita (4 people). Unfortunately for us, the ocean was not swimmable; the seaweed/algae along the beachfront were so bad we couldn't even get to the water's edge. I understand this is an issue for the entire area of Tulum, not just PPP. Recommend checking water conditions before booking your trip. I want to say thank you to all the staff; they were beyond polite, especially the girls and guys at the front desk.

We absolutely loved our time at Papaya Playa. Why? For so many reasons - the location is amazing, the concept of the place is so cool/progressive, the stream-lined yet eco-conscious approach to environmental architecture is a refreshing change from much of what you'll find in Cancun, the breakfast in the morning which overlooked the DJ set, the beach with the gentle tide (so we could swim with our kids). Dreamy!

My girlfriends and I just came back from the most amazing trip!!!! We stayed at Palapa house, the house is incredible, the food is amazing, the beach is breathtaking, but the best part of our trip was the service we got from Ale and Sol, they made we stayed magical!!!! Thank you so much for all your help, guys! I'm looking forward to going back soon!!!!!!!
