Why Conchas Chinas?
Conchas Chinas is Puerto Vallarta’s most prestigious residential neighborhood — a dramatic hillside enclave perched above the Pacific just south of the Romantic Zone. Known as the “Beverly Hills of Puerto Vallarta,” the area was one of the first to attract international visitors in the 1960s, and today it remains the city’s most sought-after address for luxury villa rentals. The neighborhood is divided by the coastal highway into Upper and Lower Conchas Chinas: Upper Conchas Chinas offers elevated estates with sweeping panoramic views of Banderas Bay, the city skyline, and the Sierra Madre mountains, while Lower Conchas Chinas puts you steps from the sand with direct access to secluded beach coves and crystal-clear water.
The name means “curly shells” in Spanish, a nod to the distinctive shells found along its rocky shoreline. Playa Conchas Chinas is one of Puerto Vallarta’s most beautiful and quiet beaches — a string of small, hidden coves carved into the rocky coastline, far less crowded than neighboring Playa Los Muertos. The neighborhood’s steep, winding roads reveal stunning vistas at every turn, and the architecture ranges from classic Vallarta-style villas with terracotta roofs and hand-painted tiles to contemporary estates with infinity pools and floor-to-ceiling glass. Despite its secluded feel, Conchas Chinas is just a 5-minute drive (or a scenic 15-minute walk along the coastal path) from the Romantic Zone’s restaurants, galleries, nightlife, and the Malecón boardwalk.
