Why South Shore?
Puerto Vallarta’s South Shore is a dramatic stretch of Pacific coastline running south from the city limits at Conchas Chinas through Mismaloya, Playas Gemelas, Punta Negra, and down to the charming fishing village of Boca de Tomatlán. This is where the lush foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains plunge directly into the ocean, creating a landscape of jungle-covered hillsides, hidden coves, rocky headlands, and some of the most stunning beaches in all of Banderas Bay. Low-density luxury residences dot the coastline with nothing but tropical jungle in between, giving the South Shore a secluded, exclusive character that feels worlds away from the hotel zone.
Despite its remote feel, the South Shore is just 10–25 minutes by car from downtown Puerto Vallarta along the scenic coastal highway. The area is home to some of Puerto Vallarta’s most impressive villas — sprawling estates perched on clifftops with infinity pools overlooking the Pacific, beachfront haciendas surrounded by tropical gardens, and contemporary architectural masterpieces nestled into the jungle canopy. Key landmarks include the Sierra del Mar gated community, Los Arcos National Marine Park, the famous Mismaloya Beach where “The Night of the Iguana” was filmed, and Boca de Tomatlán — the gateway to the boat-access-only beaches of Las Ánimas, Quimixto, and Yelapa.
