Why San José del Cabo?
San José del Cabo is the quieter, more culturally rich counterpart to Cabo San Lucas, sitting 20 miles east along the Tourist Corridor. Founded as a mission town in 1730, San José retains its colonial Mexican character with cobblestone streets, a historic central plaza, the 18th-century Missión de San José del Cabo church, and a thriving Art District filled with galleries, boutiques, and artisan workshops. The weekly Thursday Art Walk (November–June) transforms downtown into an open-air celebration of Baja art and culture, drawing collectors and art lovers from around the world.
Beyond its cultural appeal, San José del Cabo is home to some of the region’s finest dining, anchored by Flora’s Field Kitchen (a celebrated farm-to-table restaurant on an organic farm) and a growing scene of chef-driven restaurants blending Baja Mediterranean cuisine with fresh local seafood. The town sits closest to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD, just 15 minutes away) and offers easy access to the Corridor’s best beaches, including the swimmable Palmilla Beach and the surfer-favorite Costa Azul. Puerto Los Cabos, a newer luxury development east of town, features two championship golf courses (Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus designs) and a growing collection of luxury villas and condominiums.
