About The Villa

Casa Roma stands on the Costa Careyes coast, where the Sierra runs down to the Pacific and the houses sit far enough apart that a neighbour is a rumour rather than a presence. Six suites sleep twelve. The house follows the slope so that the principal rooms all face the water, and the architecture keeps to the Careyes idiom: thick walls in earth colours, wide openings left unglazed, terraces used as rooms, and a palette drawn from the sea and the jungle around it.

All six bedrooms are full suites with king beds, ensuite bathrooms and a balcony or terrace of their own. The first pairs an ocean-view spa bathroom and soaking tub with a sitting area, minibar and coffee station; the second holds a four-poster bed and a bathroom with double vanity and rainfall shower; the third a marble bathroom and a reading corner opening to the terrace; the fourth an outdoor shower; the fifth stands in its own wing with a soaking tub facing the sea; and the sixth has a hammock slung on the balcony above the Pacific. Indoors the house holds a cinema with recliners, a spa with steam room and sauna, a Technogym fitness studio, a gourmet kitchen, a wine cellar and a full bar.

Outside, a heated infinity pool runs toward the horizon with a jacuzzi beside it, and the terraces hold a fire-pit lounge, an outdoor kitchen with a grill and a traditional clay oven, a shaded pergola for dining, a tennis court, a cold plunge and a deck set aside for yoga. Steps lead down to the beach, where loungers, umbrellas and equipment are kept. A professional chef cooks to a menu agreed in advance, a butler and waitstaff run the day, two housekeepers clean and a concierge handles bookings and excursions. Pre-arrival grocery shopping carries a twenty per cent service fee; in-villa spa treatments, private yoga and tennis instruction and chauffeured transport are arranged at further cost.

Playa Rosa is five minutes away, the Careyes Polo Club ten, the Costa Careyes art gallery twelve and El Careyes Club and Residences fifteen, with local restaurants and boutiques in the same range and Manzanillo International Airport about ninety minutes by road. The coast here is known for its turtle releases, its polo and its beach picnics, and the house has the staff and the space to arrange any of them. For a family gathering, a wedding or a wellness week, Casa Roma offers Villa Experience guests a rare degree of seclusion on a stretch of coast built around exactly that.

Costa Careyes is unlike anywhere else in Mexico — the colors, the architecture, the vibe. Casa Roma fits right in. Pool is compact but refreshing. Six bedrooms in a compound-style layout. We hiked, swam, cooked simple meals. The isolation is the point. Bring a car.

If you haven’t heard of Costa Careyes, good — keep it that way. This place is wild in the best sense. Brightly colored houses built into cliffs, the polo club, empty coves you hike down to. We swam, we ate Oaxacan food, we drank mezcal under stars you can’t see from anywhere else. No cell signal for most of the day. My kids complained for the first two hours and then forgot their phones existed. The road in is rough but that’s the point — it keeps the wrong people out.

Our annual trip — the group chat starts buzzing the moment someone books flights. Beds were seriously comfortable. A local recommended a tequila tasting and it delivered. Worth mentioning: grilled octopus at a beachfront spot. The hillside setting made it completely private. We needed this more than we knew.
