Quiet week at Bungalow Palmeras – Los Guajes. One bedrooms, our group of 2 spread out nicely. We arranged a chef through VE — good decision. Spent mornings exploring — walked the coast for an hour — and afternoons doing nothing.
One room. One surfboard. Palm trees overhead. The Pacific out front. The cook made simple, beautiful food — eggs and beans in the morning, grilled fish in the evening. Surfed empty waves. Read a novel in the hammock. Fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. No pool, no AC, no schedule. My wife asked if I was okay because I was smiling too much. This is the Mexico that existed before the megaresorts and I hope it stays.
Palmeras has a hammock strung between two palms and that’s where I spent half the trip. One bedroom, beach access, basic kitchen. We surfed Guajes break, ate at the one local comedor, and lived in swim trunks. No AC — the palm shade and ocean breeze are your climate control. For the right person, this is everything.
