The evening

A cove on the south shore, lit by candles.

Las Caletas is a cove on the southern shore of Banderas Bay, between Yelapa and Quimixto, once the seaside retreat of the director John Huston. It is reached only by sea. Rhythms of the Night, Puerto Vallarta’s evening at the cove for more than two decades, leaves by catamaran at sunset, and from December to March you may see humpback whales on the way.

Dinner comes first, by candlelight, then lantern-lit paths lead through the jungle to an open-air amphitheatre. The show, ALMA by Rhythms of the Night, is directed by Mukhtar Mukhtar with scenography by Eugenio Caballero: acrobats, dancers and live music, drawn from Mexican myth and ritual.

It is the evening we suggest for a villa group’s big night out.

Our take
“This is the night out I recommend for groups: you leave the villa, sail at sunset, and the whole evening is looked after. For anniversaries and milestone birthdays, Premier is the one, with a plated dinner by Paco Ruano and unlimited champagne.”
Oliver Weickardt Founder, Villa Experience

Before you go, a transfer from the villa to the Puerto Vallarta departure point, arranged by our concierge.

Questions

Before you ask.

Is there a dress code?

There is no formal dress code. Wear comfortable shoes, not heels or wedges, as the paths run through the jungle, and bring a light layer in winter and bug repellent in summer.

Classic, VIP or Premier: what is the difference?

All three include the cruise, dinner with wine and drinks, and the show. VIP adds preferential boarding, oceanfront dining with live music and a designated area at the show. Premier adds a plated dinner by chef Paco Ruano with sommelier pairings and unlimited champagne, priority boarding, Premier seating and a meeting with the artists.

What is on the menu?

The dinner draws on the flavours and ingredients of the Mexican Pacific, with local produce and contemporary technique. Premier is a plated fine-dining menu by chef Paco Ruano of Alcalde. Tell us about allergies or diets when you book and we pass them on.

Where does the boat leave from?

From Puerto Vallarta. Your exact check-in point is confirmed when you book; plan to arrive 45 minutes before departure.

Is it a sunset dinner cruise from Puerto Vallarta?

In effect, yes. You cruise from Puerto Vallarta at sunset, with a chance of humpback whales from December to March, and the Las Caletas dinner show takes place ashore, at a cove reached by boat.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, from age 6.
