The day

Ziplines and a waterfall, across the bay.

Outdoor Adventure is a zipline tour in Puerto Vallarta’s southern jungle, set in a natural reserve in the Sierra Madre about six miles south of town. You cross the bay by boat to the fishing village of Boca de Tomatlán, ride a Unimog truck to base camp, then take a mule up through the forest to the first line.

From there it is a canopy tour with water in it: a zipline circuit that includes the Roller Coaster zipline, which twists and drops through the trees, a rappel beside a waterfall and a run of hillside water slides. It is an active day of about six and a half hours, for families with children of 8 and over.

The Roller Coaster zipline turns and dips through the canopy instead of running in a straight line.

A person on a rope descends a dark rock face beside a long white waterfall in the jungle.
Down the rock, beside the falling water.
The tour

One day, boat to base camp to canopy.

Outdoor Adventure runs as a shared small-group tour, operated by Vallarta Adventures and booked through us. Private days are available on request.

Our take
“Plan the whole day around this one: it is about six and a half hours and you will come back wet, so pack a change of clothes. It suits active families with children of 8 and over, and if the whole villa wants to go, we can ask Vallarta Adventures for a private day.”
Oliver Weickardt Founder, Villa Experience

After the day, a private chef dinner back at the villa, arranged by our concierge (at additional cost).

Questions

Before you ask.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes, up to 118 kg (260 lbs). Guests also need to be at least 1.2 m (4 ft) tall, and both are checked at check-in.

How old do children need to be?

At least 8, and at least 1.2 m tall whatever their age.

What should we wear?

Long shorts or trousers, a T-shirt and closed-toe shoes. You will get wet at the waterfall and probably muddy on the hike, so bring a change of clothes and shoes for the locker at base camp, plus bug spray and a light sweater.

How do we get to the ziplines?

By boat across the bay to Boca de Tomatlán, then a Unimog truck to base camp and a mule ride of about 25 minutes to the first zipline. The mules walk at an easy pace and no riding experience is needed.

How fit do we need to be?

Reasonably fit: you need to walk uphill for about 30 minutes and climb a 20-foot ladder. Vallarta Adventures' booking conditions exclude pregnancy, seizures, vertigo, and heart, back, knee or neck conditions.

Can we book it privately?

Yes. Vallarta Adventures runs private days on request, and our concierge can arrange one for your villa group.
