Villa ExperienceExperiences · Puerto EscondidoOctober 2026

Oaxaca coast · Surf, turtles and the lagoons

The Boat Tour to see Dolphins and Marine Life is the one booking almost everyone here should make, and the Turtle Release Experience is the evening that children remember. Beyond those it is a temazcal, a sunset ride along the beach, a cooking class and a first surf lesson well away from Zicatela.

Frequently asked

Answered plainly

Is there a season for the turtles or the dolphins?

Not one our catalogue states. Both run year round here; the turtle camps release through most of the year and the dolphins are resident along this coast. The boat trips go early, when the water is flattest.

Which suit families?

The turtle release is the obvious one, and the dolphin boat trip works for anyone who does not mind a small boat. The cooking class is good with older children. The temazcal is a hot, enclosed steam lodge and is for adults.

Can a beginner surf Puerto Escondido?

Not at Zicatela, and the lesson on this page does not go there. It is taught on the gentler beaches with land drills first, which is the honest way to learn on this coast.

Which tours leave town for the day?

One. The Chacahua National Park trip runs west into the lagoons for the wildlife and the sunset and takes about six hours. Everything else on this page is two to four hours and starts in or near town.

How does booking work?

Every tour here books on GetYourGuide. We choose them and keep the list checked; the operator holds the booking, the payment and the cancellation terms. We earn a commission on the links, as the page says at the bottom.
