Villa Amor del Mar sits on the sand at Los Delfines Golf and Country Club, on the Tango Mar stretch of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. Five bedrooms sleep twelve. The house has a hundred and twenty feet of private beach in front of it and the golf course five minutes behind, so the day can run from the first tee to the water without a car. The rooms are arranged around the ocean side, open-plan and cross-ventilated, and the coastline here is still forest to the waterline, which means howler monkeys and pelicans rather than neighbours.
The main bedroom holds a king bed with private access to the beachfront patio, ocean views and an ensuite bathroom. A second bedroom holds two queen beds with a private terrace and garden outlook, a third a single queen with its own garden patio and a rain shower, and the fourth and fifth each hold two queen beds opening to the garden. Every room has an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning and ceiling fans. The living area is open-plan with the ocean in front of it, the kitchen is equipped for cooking properly, and a Sky Room above holds a mini-bar and a view along the whole beach.
Outside, an infinity pool sits at the edge of the beach with an oceanfront patio and dining area beside it, a firepit for the evenings, and pool and beach toys including boogie boards. Housekeeping and laundry run daily, the pool and grounds are maintained daily, and an English- and Spanish-speaking concierge is available around the clock and meets arriving guests at Tambor or Cobano. A private chef with weekly meal plans, private tours, fishing charters and adventure excursions, and charter flights or helicopter transfers are all arranged at further cost. The community is gate-guarded with security provided by the association.
The beach is at the door and the golf course a five-minute walk. Tambor town is ten minutes by road and Tambor airport fifteen, which puts San Jose within a short flight; the waterfalls at Montezuma are about thirty minutes away, and the surf and the sportfishing are closer still. A dozen of us took over of 11 and Villa Amor del Mar fit us well. Five bedrooms, nice outdoor areas. We arranged a cook through VE — good decision. We drove along the coast. Enjoyed our time here.
No pool. No marble. No resort. Just a house on the Pacific coast with waves, wind, and a cook who made incredible food from what was available. We surfed every day, ate grilled fish every night, slept with the windows open to the sound of the ocean. The stars here are the real stars — no light pollution, just the Milky Way like a stripe across the sky. The power went out one evening. We lit candles and played cards. It was honestly the best night of the trip.
Remote Pacific coast, no neighbours, no noise. Amor del Mar has five bedrooms and nothing else — that’s the point. We surfed a break that had no one else on it. Cooked every meal from market ingredients. The stars here are staggering — no light pollution for miles. The road in needs high clearance.
