We had four families for a total of 19 guests (8 adults; and 11 children ranging from 4-16 years old). There was more than enough space for us all, and we even had a couple of rooms unoccupied. The set up is 4 bedrooms in the main house; one bedroom attached to the main house but only accessed through outside; and four garden casitas. This served our needs very well, but depending on your group's make-up, it might not be suitable for all. If you have many very young children to have their own rooms, you may not be comfortable with them staying in a garden casita on their own. We all preferred to have the youngest in rooms with parents anyway in the main house, so it was great to put them to bed and then be downstairs having adult time. The casitas were completely suitable for the 9-16-year-old crowd who happily retreated to their rooms in the evening to hang out and get their allotted screen time to share the day's vacation photos with their friends back home. The grounds are enclosed, gated, and quite private, so security was not a concern. The kids were able to roam freely and largely unsupervised. The pool area and beach were well set up and with more than enough spaces for our big group. The beach is one of the best in the area for young kids as it has a reef at the mouth of the bay, stopping the surf from pounding in. The water is quite shallow even farther out, and our four-year-old twin toddlers were comfortable playing and swimming in the ocean. Because of the reef, there is no need for the massive sandbags you see in lots of the resorts to create calm swimming areas and keep the beach from eroding. The staff were all great; the chefs provided us with marvelous food their entire trip. We stuck with Mexican food throughout (except for one lunch as a nod to the teenagers when we served hamburgers and hot dogs). The price for groceries was comparable to shopping at home. I would suggest you have the staff shop for you, including any alcohol you want, they know the places to go with the best prices. The maids kept the place spotless and a fresh supply of pool towels handy at all times. The villa manager came by regularly and was very responsive to any requests. He found a pinata for a child's birthday and arranged beachfront massages for the gals. We also had a full mariachi band come and play for us for a special anniversary night. All in all, this was a much better experience than a resort. Because all the families had young kids, in a resort, we would have had to say good night and gone to our respective rooms to put the kids to bed and be stuck there all night. At the villa, we were able to continue visiting after bedtime and were much more comfortable. No annoyance of having other guests reserve pool chairs at 6 am and not having a place to sit! While it seems pricey, when you split it between as many people as it can accommodate, you end up with a similar costing vacation as a mid-range all-inclusive and get a dramatically superior experience. The only downside I can think of is that there were a few spots in the villa we weren't entirely comfortable with the youngest kids. The two upper patios had railings that toddlers could crawl through or climb on. It wasn't a big deal as there were so many different seating areas that we just made them out of bounds for kids. The upper decks became the "teen/adult reading" area when someone could escape relaxing a little. Fully recommend the villa itself and the area of Soliman Bay. We made sure we had one vehicle to run into town when needed, so we didn't feel too isolated. Still, when the whole group wanted to do an excursion, the villa manager arranged very reasonable transportation. Show less

This place exceeded my expectations. 3 families consisting of 6 adults and 14 “kids” ranging in age 12-21. The food was so good. The service was excellent. Kudos to Ms. Irene(chef) Jose Kim Limberg and the cleaning crew daily. Best place ever.

Family with 14 adults (ages 19 - >60) and 5 children ages 2 - 13. We opted for the chef. The main house was great, and we realized that we used the living room maybe 3 times during the week. This was due to the awesome outdoor area. There are large outdoor couches around the pool, chairs on the beach with good tree shade, hammocks on the beach, and our favorite place: the large palapa with a large table and plenty of chairs. Most of us spent most of the time in the palapa, about 8 feet from the water. When the breeze was coming in from the ocean, it was very comfortable. There was also an extensive covered sitting area on the roof, which had a couch and an awesome view of the area. Every bedroom was great, and I personally stayed in one of the guesthouse rooms. It was great for the 2 of us and had a newer AC unit for nighttime. The house is not air-conditioned, but each bedroom is. I personally think the website needs some better pictures of the outdoor area because I was blown away by that. The chef, Jose, was great, and at first, I didn't know what to expect. It turned out he made plenty of food, and we had leftovers for every meal. You choose what you want him to make for each meal, and he goes into town and buys the groceries. For this, you need cash daily for him to make the purchases, but we knew that ahead of time. We all had nothing but compliments for each meal. The housekeepers and groundskeepers cleaned the whole villa up each morning, and it never had that "partying for a week" look. A couple of things to keep in mind. You can't flush anything down the toilet anywhere in that area, Tulum included. So, you can use your imagination as to some issues this causes. Second, you are provided filtered water to do things like brush your teeth, and you can run out of tap water if a faucet is left on (kids). The staff did a great job helping us out when this happened, so it ended up not a big deal. It is pretty secluded, and there is about a 5-minute ride down the alleyway with speed bumps every 25 feet or so. If you come from Cancun, try to pick up what you think you'll need for those off items because you'll likely have to go to Tulum to get anything. I think it's one of the pricier houses, but it's huge, has an awesome beach, and is about 50 feet from the kitchen to the water. A couple of our group had stayed in the area numerous times, and they had never seen a palapa as large, nice, and close to the water as this place has. Highly recommend it for large groups. Finally, there are a decent amount of baby stingrays in the shallows, so wear water socks and shuffle when you enter the water. I stepped right on one the second day, and he stabbed me to the bone in the top of my foot. After a few hours of pain from the venom, I was pretty good the rest of the trip and did lots of snorkeling and scuba diving. I think you are also paying for the basically unfettered access to Soliman Bay, and most of our group snorkeled daily, seeing LOTS of rays, sea turtles, and reef fish. I would love to return next year.

This past February- I took my extended family on a week-long vacation to the picture-perfect Soliman Bay, near Tulum. The Villa was spectacular, with beautiful marble and tilework throughout. The roof terrace was amazing for the view and cool breezes, and the pool and beach were outstanding. Four kayaks were right by the beach for our use the entire week, along with snorkel equipment and life-jackets. The villa was fully staffed with remarkable chefs, maids, and security. The food was unbelievable-fresh and locally sourced. Our family was thrilled with the service and the location. We are already planning to return to this marvelous piece of paradise!

Casa Yardena was very relaxing and met all of our expectations. It comfortably fit our extended family group of 18. The main house has 5 bedrooms, and the two casitas have two more bedrooms each. The rooms have either king or queen beds, and most of them are very spacious. There are two rooms in the main house that are cozy with no sitting area, but it was still very comfortable. The bedrooms all had sufficient air conditioning. There is no air conditioning outside the bedrooms, so we relied on the ocean breeze blowing through the great room to tolerate the hot and sticky July weather. The meals were all enjoyable, and we routinely ate outside near the ocean. The pool was a fantastic asset, with plenty of places to lay down and chill. We took the kayaks out into the ocean, where you can tie up to boogie for snorkeling. The house is located along a beach strip cozied up to over a dozen other very nice houses. The staff was very nice and reliable, but most of them spoke only Spanish. The property manager, Rocio, was reliable and quick to respond to any concerns. For example, a nearby transformer blew in the middle of the night, but Gustavo (and other property managers) successfully applied pressure to the local power company to fix the problem within several hours. There was an ant invasion in the kitchen that should be addressed, and the fridge is slow to cool off beers, but otherwise, there is nothing to complain about at Casa Yardena. The house is about 20 minutes from downtown Tulum, and Xel-Ha is about 15 minutes away. There are several other worthy attractions located nearby, too. We would be happy to go back.
