The evening

Out to Land’s End as the sun goes down.

A private sunset cruise in Cabo San Lucas leaves the marina and sails out to Land’s End: the Arch, Pelican Rock, the sea lion colony, and Lover’s Beach and Divorce Beach. Departure moves with the sunset through the year, so the time is set for your date when you book.

Two boats are used: a 50 ft Beneteau monohull for up to 16, quieter and closer to the water, and a Leopard sailing catamaran for up to 24, which is wider and stays level. Both come with a bilingual crew, and on the private sail the captain will let you take the helm.

From mid-December to April, humpback and gray whales are often seen on the way out to Land’s End.

Two guests stand at the wheel of a sailing boat in warm evening light.
The crew will let you steer if you ask.

Before you go.

Who can join

From age 5 on the private sail and 8 on the shared one, with a 120 kg (265 lb) weight limit. Not suitable during pregnancy, and the shared sail is not suitable for limited mobility.

Which boat

The catamaran stays level and is the better choice if anyone is prone to seasickness; the monohull feels more like classic sailing.

What to bring

Sunglasses for the bright start, then a light jacket, as evenings can be breezy from December to April. Shoes come off on board.

On the day

A dock fee is paid at check-in. For the shared sail, villa guests meet at the Cabo Adventures office in the marina.

Our take
“Book the boat privately for a villa group: the departure follows the sunset on your date, and round-trip transport is included. Choose the catamaran if anyone is unsure about the motion.”
Oliver Weickardt Founder, Villa Experience

Once you are back, a private chef cooks the evening meal at the villa (at additional cost), arranged by our concierge.

Questions

Before you ask.

What time does the sail leave?

It moves with the sunset: earlier in winter and later in summer. Cabo Adventures sets the departure for your date and confirms it when you book; on the shared sail, check in 45 minutes before.

Can we book the boat just for us?

Yes. The private sunset sail takes your party only, on a monohull for up to 16 or a catamaran for up to 24, with round-trip transport from your hotel; from a villa, our concierge arranges your transfer to the marina.

Sailboat or catamaran?

The 50 ft Beneteau monohull is quieter and closer to the water, for up to 16. The Leopard catamaran is wider and steadier, for up to 24, and suits families and anyone who feels the motion.

What food and drinks are on board?

An open bar with cocktails, wine, sparkling wine and beer, and appetizers in bento boxes for two to share: on the shared sail, pasta, guacamole, Caprese and salami-and-cheese skewers, then a dessert. The food is light, so plan the evening meal at the villa afterwards.

Will we see whales?

Often, from mid-December to April, though it is not a whale-watching trip. For a dedicated outing, see whale watching.

Do we need sailing experience?

No. The crew sails the boat; on the private sail you can learn the basics and take the helm if you like.
