The ranch

Desert trails down to the ocean.

Yes, you can take a camel ride in Cabo San Lucas: Cabo Adventures keeps its camels at Tierra Sagrada, a ranch in the desert near Cerritos and Todos Santos, about 45 minutes north of town. The ride follows desert trails down to the Pacific shoreline, with local guides who explain the camels and the plants and animals along the way.

The Outback safari adds a guided nature walk, a tortilla-making lesson and a buffet at the ranch’s oceanfront restaurant, with beer, infused water and a tasting of tequila, mezcal and damiana.

Take the 4 PM safari, and the afternoon ends at sunset around a bonfire by the Pacific.

Good to know

Before you go.

Who can ride

From age 5, or 8 on the ATV and UTV combos, with a 120 kg (265 lb) limit per rider. Not suitable during pregnancy or with back or neck problems; the UTV combo also excludes heart, balance and dizziness conditions.

What to wear

Light clothes that cover your legs, closed athletic shoes, a hat and sunglasses, with a sweater in winter.

Phones

No phones or cameras on the ride, as both hands stay on the saddle. Photos are taken for you and can be bought.

On the day

An entrance fee for Tierra Sagrada is paid at check-in. For the shared tours, villa guests meet at the Cabo Adventures office in the Cabo San Lucas marina.

Our take
“With younger children I would book the private ride: up to 7 of you, and nobody else to keep pace with. Teenagers who want more will prefer the camels and UTV combo.”

Questions

Before you ask.

Can you really ride camels in Cabo San Lucas?

Yes. Cabo Adventures keeps camels at Tierra Sagrada, a desert ranch about 45 minutes north of Cabo San Lucas, and the ride goes down to the Pacific shore. Camels are not native to Mexico; they were brought here for their ability to cross the desert.

What should we wear?

Breathable clothes that cover your legs, closed athletic shoes, a hat and sunglasses. Bring a light sweater in winter, leave loose jewelry at the villa, and pack a change of clothes if you are doing an ATV or UTV combo.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes: 120 kg (265 lb) per person.

Can we combine it with an ATV or the Arch?

Yes. There are three combos: camels and ATV, camels and a Polaris UTV, each about three hours, or a six-hour day with a speedboat to the Arch first, then the camels and lunch.

Is the camel ride good for children?

Yes, from age 5 on the camel rides and the Arch combo, and from 8 on the ATV and UTV combos. Drivers must be 18 with a license; younger guests ride as passengers. The UTV combo also has a minimum height of 1.20 m (4 ft).

Can we ride at sunset?

Yes. The shared Outback safari has a 4 PM departure that ends with a bonfire at sunset.
