The place
Why San Juan de Alima?
This is one of the least-travelled stretches of the Mexican Pacific. The coast road runs between the Sierra and the sea, the villages are small, and at Playa Alima the jungle comes right down to the sand. The house stands inside the gated community there, directly on the beach.
It is built as an estate rather than a single villa: a main house and four bungalows across twenty thousand square feet, two swimming pools, a terrace bar, a long wooden table facing the water for everybody to eat at, an open grilling area, and a rooftop made for looking at the stars — there is very little light here to compete with them.
