Why Tankah Bay?

Tankah Bay is a hidden gem on the Riviera Maya coast, tucked between Tulum and Akumal on a secluded Caribbean bay where freshwater cenotes flow directly into the sea. This creates a unique natural phenomenon — swimmable cenote pools just steps from the ocean, surrounded by tropical jungle and white-sand beach. Tankah Bay has virtually no commercial development, offering a level of privacy and natural beauty that rivals Soliman Bay while adding the extraordinary cenote element that makes it unlike any other beach destination in Mexico.

The bay’s protected setting creates calm swimming conditions, and the offshore reef provides excellent snorkeling with abundant tropical fish, rays, and sea turtles. Villas in Tankah Bay sit directly on the beach, many with private gardens, pools, and direct access to both the cenote and the Caribbean. Casa Cenote, a freshwater cenote surrounded by mangroves that opens to the sea, is Tankah’s most famous natural attraction and can be explored by kayak, paddleboard, or snorkel. Tulum town is just 10–15 minutes south, Akumal is 10 minutes north, and Cancún International Airport (CUN) is approximately 80 minutes north.

Frequently asked

Answered plainly.

01Where is Tankah Bay?

Tankah Bay is located on the Caribbean coast between Tulum and Akumal in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, approximately 10–15 minutes north of Tulum town and 10 minutes south of Akumal. It’s accessed via a turnoff from Highway 307. Cancún International Airport (CUN) is approximately 80 minutes north.

02What makes Tankah Bay unique?

Tankah Bay’s defining feature is its freshwater cenotes that flow directly into the Caribbean — you can swim in a cenote and the ocean within steps of each other. Casa Cenote is a mangrove-lined freshwater cenote that opens to the sea, offering kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling in crystal-clear freshwater. Combined with a calm, protected bay, excellent reef snorkeling, and almost no commercial development, Tankah Bay offers an experience unique on the Riviera Maya.

03What services are included in a Tankah Bay villa rental?

Every Tankah Bay villa booked through Villa Experience includes a private chef or cook (2–3 meals per day, groceries at cost), daily housekeeping, and a dedicated concierge. Your concierge arranges cenote kayaking, reef snorkeling, sea turtle encounters at Akumal, Tulum and Cobá ruins excursions, Sian Ka’an Biosphere tours, fishing, spa treatments, and airport transfers from CUN.

04Is Tankah Bay good for snorkeling?

Exceptional — Tankah Bay offers two distinct snorkeling experiences: the offshore reef with tropical fish, rays, and sea turtles, and the freshwater Casa Cenote with remarkable underwater visibility through crystal-clear spring water. The protected bay keeps conditions calm. Nearby Akumal Bay (10 minutes north) is one of the Riviera Maya’s best locations for swimming alongside green sea turtles.

Guest reviews

In their words.

This house and its incredible team exceeded our wildest expectations in every conceivable way. We came to celebrate my 40th birthday with a group of six friends, and what we experienced was nothing short of magical.

We could not have been happier with the decision to stay at this place… We would absolutely stay here again and bring more friends along. Even the management was very accommodating and asked us for things we didn’t even think about.

The property is exactly as pictured, which is what sold me on staying there, but it is even better than that! The property is so expansive; there are so many places to be and relax and enjoy the beauty. Apart from the idyllic setting, the staff are who made this trip so extraordinary.
