The PGA TOUR in Los Cabos 2026: Four days at El Cardonal, and a house for the week

The World Wide Technology Championship plays its four rounds from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November on El Cardonal at Diamante, Tiger Woods’ first course, on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas. It is the twentieth playing and the fourth in Los Cabos: 120 players, with Ben Griffin defending. Here is the week day by day, how to watch it and where to stay.

For one week in November the PGA TOUR plays at the bottom of the Baja peninsula. El Cardonal, the course Tiger Woods’ TGR Design opened at Diamante in 2014, falls from a clubhouse on the hill through sandy arroyos and dunes towards the Pacific. In 2023 it became the first Woods design to host an official TOUR event.

The World Wide Technology Championship was the first PGA TOUR event played in Mexico, and the TOUR’s first official event outside the United States and Canada. It started at Mayakoba in 2007, moved to Los Cabos in 2023, and this year plays for the twentieth time.

Spectators come from Thursday to Sunday. Below: the course, the week day by day, who is playing, tickets and the best places to watch from, how to get there, the television times, and three of our houses for the week.

The tournament

Twenty playings, the fourth in Los Cabos

Sixteen editions were played on El Camaleón at Mayakoba, in the Riviera Maya, from 2007 to 2022; Fred Funk won the first, and Viktor Hovland is the only player to have won it twice, in 2020 and 2021. Since the move to El Cardonal in 2023 the winning scores have gone low: Adam Long hit every fairway that first year, the first time anyone had done it in a TOUR event since 1992. By the organiser’s count, 33 Mexican players have made 95 appearances in its first nineteen editions, and no golf event in Latin America has paid out more prize money.

The course

The course Tiger Woods built first

TGR Design laid El Cardonal over 225 acres of desert foothills on a steady four per cent slope, and Woods said it would “remind people of the old-style California courses” he grew up on. The land drops 240 feet over the mile from the 17th tee to the 3rd fairway. Sandy arroyos running north to south are the main hazard, and because most holes run the same way there are no forced carries; the fairways are wide, the paspalum firm and fast, and the wind usually comes from the north. From the tournament tees it plays par 72 and 7,452 yards. (The 7,363 yards in some guides is a shorter set of tees on the same scorecard.) Four holes the organiser singles out, and the whole course from the air:

The 1st

Par 5 · 582 yards

It “plays dramatically downhill into large sand dunes”, and the Pacific is first seen from the clubhouse above it. Holes 1 to 5 run low through the dunes with the ocean in view.

The 5th

Par 4 · 438 yards

The green sits on the edge of an arroyo. The PGA TOUR calls it the key hole.

The 18th

Par 5 · 585 yards

Downhill more than 60 feet from tee to green, with cross bunkers at the second landing area. It is where van Rooyen made his eagle in 2023, and where the trophy is presented.

The whole course

18 holes · 97 acres of grass

Fairways threaded through the arroyos and the desert scrub; the greens average 8,300 square feet.

Diamante, around it. El Cardonal is one of two championship courses at Diamante, a private resort and residential community with, on its own site, a mile and a half of Pacific coastline. The other is the Dunes, by Davis Love III. There is also the Oasis, a twelve-hole par-3 course by TGR that opened in 2016, a putting course and the Crystal Lagoon. A third TGR course, the Legacy, is planned for owners and has no opening date yet. For the other courses in town, read where to play golf in Cabo San Lucas.

Where to watch from

The PGA TOUR calls the walk demanding, “to say nothing of spectators”: the land falls 240 feet from the 17th tee to the 3rd fairway. Pick two or three places and stay a while.
