The hacienda sprawls through Tulum jungle like it grew there. Stone walls, thick vegetation, pools of water catching filtered light. Our group of sixteen spread across the compound and it never felt crowded. The cook made Yucatecan dishes all week — the cochinita pibil slow-roasted overnight was extraordinary. We cenote-hopped, visited ruins at dawn, walked to the beach. The jungle sounds at night are an experience. Power outage during one thunderstorm — generator handled it. My friend who’s stayed in five-star hotels her whole life said this was the most unique place she’s been.

Babylon in the Tulum jungle. Nine bedrooms, pool surrounded by vegetation, chef who prepared traditional dishes daily. We cenote-hopped, visited ruins, biked to the beach. The property has a hacienda grandeur adapted to the tropics. Generator handles power fluctuations smoothly. Some of the outer walkways are unlit — bring a flashlight. The garden birds are extraordinary at dawn.

Hacienda Babylon is a feast for the senses. The tropical gardens are museum-quality — mature palms, flowering trees, water features, winding stone paths. Pool and jacuzzi area feels completely secluded in all that greenery. Open-air living works perfectly in Tulum’s climate. Chef prepared cochinita pibil one evening that was extraordinary. Beach is a short drive and bikes are provided for the eco-zone.
