Traveling with kids – Riviera Maya Mexico

Riviera Maya Vacation With Kids

The famed Riviera Maya in the Mexican Caribbean is a place with so much a wide array of things to do and lodging options that it has something for everybody and a lot for the little ones! First, let’s talk about what is there for your kids in the Riviera Maya, and then we’ll take a look at the best family-friendly accommodation options available. Well, there so many things to do that I don’t really know where to start, but if I had to choose just 4 must-do for kids in the Riviera Maya, I would have to say Xel-Ha, Xcaret, Xplor, and Chichen Itza. Let’s take a closer look at each one of them: Xel-Ha is the biggest natural aquatic park in the world, “a unique set of inlets, lagoons, and cenotes, arising from the longest underground river in the world.” This is nature at its best, with plenty of activities like swimming with dolphins, Snuba (a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving), Sea Trek (walking underwater), and much more. The entrance for kids under 4 is free.

Xcaret was the first one of the three major archaeological eco-parks in the area, and it is both a celebration of nature and Mexico and its pre-Hispanic heritage. It is a park, a museum, a farm, an aquarium, and even a safari. Things to do? Everything from swimming with dolphins and even sharks to participate in Mayan ceremonies, snorkeling in sacred underground rivers called cenotes, or breaking a piñata. Xplor is the newest of the three, and this one is mostly focused on the adventure side of the experience. Here your kids will enjoy an incredible ride through the jungle on amphibious vehicles, flying over treetops in any of the 14 zip lines, and swimming in a magnificent cenote full of stalactites and stalagmites. Call me old-fashioned, but I believe that if your kids have the chance to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World, they should make the most of it. Chichen Itza is a majestic place and an unforgettable experience for your children.

Even though it boasts an impressive diversity of exclusive boutique hotels, the Riviera Maya is famous for its large-scale

all-inclusive resorts are the best choice when traveling with your children as they usually enjoy tranquil sandy beaches, kids’ pools, and kids’ clubs. The offer of amazing family resorts in the Riviera Maya makes it hard to pin just a few. Still, for sure, we’d have to mention the Azul Hotels by Karisma, the Moon Palace, the Barcelo, Iberostar, and Mayakoba families of hotels. The Azul Hotels by Karisma boast amazing kids’ clubs created by Fisher-Price, while the Rosewood Mayakoba includes its kids’ program piñata-making sessions and Mayan jewelry classes.
