Frequently Asked Questions

Puerto Vallarta has become a trendy destination, and flight deal websites offer many cheap flights to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) from many different cities in the US. There are direct flights from Los Angeles, Austin, and many other major metropolitan areas. The best part is finding flights for under $200 to Puerto Vallarta.

The number of companies that offer flights to Puerto Vallarta continues to grow. There are better options, direct flights to and from the USA made by top airlines like American, Spirit, United, and Delta.

Delta had also added several direct flights when they did not even have a single flight just a few years ago. Delta now has a new route from Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Puerto Vallarta (PVR).

JetBlue Airways also adds a new service from New York to Puerto Vallarta. This new direct flight began in February and connected the Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with the Licenciado Gustavo Diaz Ordaz (PVR) airport in Puerto Vallarta.

Now more than ever, there are many new options for flights to and from major cities in the US.

Green jungle hills tumble along Puerto Vallarta’s romantic zone towards the sea. Villas sit as lovely dots of color up the mountain or along the coastlines, located in neighborhoods like the Romantic Zone, Gringo Gulch, Conchas Chinas, and South Shore.

Most of our villas are in the south of Puerto Vallarta. Some areas are exclusive, with homes in secluded spots or gated communities. Homes are in this area because of the upscale neighborhoods and safe locations. These areas are also closest to some of the gorgeous beaches in the area.

The South Zone has some of the most luxurious villas, homes, and condos. They are situated exclusively to take advantage of the soft jungle breezes and gorgeous, precise water beach settings unique to Puerto Vallarta.

South Vallarta can be far from downtown, but that also means it is secluded, safe, and far from the town’s revelry. Even so, there are many transportation options you can take. You can use Uber or Taxis to get you out of your exclusive neighborhood and into town when you want a day to enjoy the sights and feel of the city.

While visiting all the beaches in Puerto Vallarta and the Bay of Banderas can be truly exciting, the attractions found in the south include Mismaloya, Los Arcos, the hidden beaches of Las Animas, El Caballo, Madagascar, Quimixto, Majahuitas, and Yelapa. A few other attractions in this area include the Botanical Garden, the river sanctuary El Eden and the zoo.

The neighborhoods in the south are luxurious. They cater to families with small children and older couples. They are also idyllic for newlyweds, romantics, and people who want to get away from it all.

Many of our villas are in Conchas Chinas and along the southern shores. Some have views of the ocean. Others are oceanfront. We even have luxury villas in the Amapas area.

That’s not to say we don’t have villas throughout Vallarta, but finding the perfect location is a matter of choosing the place that fits our needs and is closest to the area s you want to visit.

Many of our villas are close to town, yet far enough away to offer security and privacy.  Each of the villas has its distinct features and the amenities that best suit guests are why you choose a particular home.

As with many beach destinations, Vallarta has had a tradition of showing tolerance and being open-minded. It is one of the most friendly holiday spots in Latin America and has a thriving local gay and lesbian community.

Puerto Vallarta is the top gay-friendly vacation spot in Mexico. Since the filming of The Night of The Iguana in the 1960s, the spotlight has been turned to Puerto Vallarta, and members of the gay community started visiting the area.

Although all of Puerto Vallarta is gay friendly, the areas that the LGBT community prefers are Old Town or the Romantic Zone with its adjoining beach, Playa de Los Muertos.

Old Town (Romantic Zone) Puerto Vallarta

This area is favored by foreigners and ex-pats who love the local traditions and want to be in the middle of all the happenings. However, Old Town is also considered a gay neighborhood and has favored the LGBT community for decades. In the late 1970s and 80s, tourists became ex-pats and moved to Old Puerto Vallarta to open nightclubs, hotels, and beach clubs that catered to the gay community.

Los Muertos is a pristine beach and a well-known LBGT meeting area because the beachfront hotels are gay-friendly and often have gay owners and management. This gay community growth has brought a multicultural LGBT community together in an area that does not have discrimination.

Puerto Vallarta Is Gay Tolerant

Mexico has never had laws against homosexuality, despite its strong macho culture and Catholic influence. Locals respect the gay community, which has led LGBT organizations to promote Puerto Vallarta and recognize Puerto Vallarta and gay rights. In addition, in 2013, Puerto Vallarta was among the first cities to legalize civil unions between LGBT couples.

These events have made the Romantic Zone, Old Town, and the Playa de Los Muertos the go-to location for LGBT-friendly travelers.

The resort city of Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s top five beach destinations. The city is located on the Pacific coast in the center of the country, and because of the location, it enjoys primarily pleasant, balmy weather year-round. Despite the beautiful year-round weather, the peak season for visiting Puerto Vallarta is from December through March. The weather is perfect, and tourists can enjoy various activities, including whale watching.

Puerto Vallarta has nice weather during most of the year, but temperatures rise a little in the Spring and reach the high 80s. The Summer is the rainy season. August, September, and October tend to be the hottest months, not so much because of the temperatures. Those remain in the 80s, but because of the humidity, which often reaches about 98%.

Note: Like many beach destinations, hurricane season runs from August to November. However, hurricanes rarely occur here because the bay and high mountains protect Puerto Vallarta.

Spring

Visitors who have visited Puerto Vallarta on various occasions often say that Spring is the best time to visit as there are fewer visitors than over the holidays. The exception to this rule is Easter vacation, when most Mexican travelers take the week off to the beach. During this season, the water is warmer, and while temperatures are more generous, they are not unbearable and sit somewhere around 80 to 87 degrees Fahrenheit.

Summer

Summer is the rainy season, so some days are cloudy and more relaxed, and others are extremely hot and sunny. It usually rains every couple of days, but these are showers that last about an hour or two, so they rarely ruin beach plans, and watching a rainstorm on Puerto Vallarta Bay is a truly fantastic sight.

Late Summer and Fall

Water temperatures are their warmest this time of year, so playing in the surf should undoubtedly be on your list of To-Dos when you visit during this Summer. By October, the rains start to subside, but water evaporation is at an all-time high, so the humidity is highest during October.

The rainy season in Puerto Vallarta is not too bad, and some people prefer it. Rain comes in the late afternoon or at night, and the thunder over the bay can be spectacular.

Winter

January is the most incredible month of the year, with temperatures that average about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Evenings can be more relaxed and often sit in the mid-60s, so you may need a sweater or light jacket for evening walks.

The Peak Tourist Season

Most visitors plan to coincide with other international visitors from November to March. This time is also the time for mild weather conditions. Mexican tourists visit in the two weeks nearest to Easter as this is their school vacation time.

The Season for Whale Watching

The humpback whales visit Puerto Vallarta Bay from December to early March. Mostly you’ll see adult humpbacks as Puerto Vallarta is a mating area for them. However, visitors have mentioned seeing baby humpbacks towards the end of the season.

You’ll have a better chance of witnessing baby humpbacks.

Seeing the humpbacks play and jump in and out of the water is an awe-inspiring sight, one you won’t want to miss if you are in Puerto Vallarta during these months. You are almost guaranteed to see a whale when you go out in the bay.

Puerto Vallarta is an international beach destination and one of the top five destinations in Mexico, known best for its warm waters, exotic beauty, and superb international amenities. Most of the Villa Experience villas are on the south side of Puerto Vallarta, where some of the most enchanting beaches on the bay are also located. However, some of the most beautiful beach destinations are not accessible by road.

We have listed beaches accessible on foot, taxi, or boat.

Los Muertos Beach

There are few beaches in Puerto Vallarta as famous and popular as this one. A short walk from downtown, it is part of the Olas Altas or Romantic Zone area, boasting a renovated iconic pier with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. The atmosphere at Los Muertos Beach is chic and hopping. Here the hip vibe comes from the art galleries, shops, and restaurants that line the boardwalk and surrounding areas.

Camarones Beach

Camarones is another downtown beach but has a more relaxed and less crowded feel. It is a long beach made for walking and swimming, and it is dotted with fabulous beach restaurants and exciting bars.

Conchas Chinas Beach

Located on the other side of the southern cliffs of Los Muertos Beach sits Conchas Chinas. It is about a 15-minute walk across the stone path and a 15-minute drive from downtown. It is a top wedding location as it is a secluded area surrounded by natural pools and towering rock formations. The waters are turquoise which contrasts beautifully with white sandy beaches. There are only a very few restaurants in this location, so the best thing you can do is pack a picnic basket and head over to this gorgeous beach either by car or by taking a short hike from Los Muertos.

Garza Blanca Beach

If you want to walk from Conchas Chinas and relax at a beautiful beach, the Garza Blanca Beach is ideal. The beach is south of Puerto Vallarta and is Blue Flag certified. It is named after the white herons that live in the area and feed on the small fish.

Las Gemelas Beach

Las Gemelas sits outside Puerto Vallarta, but it is accessible by car, bus, or taxi. It is a beach frequently visited by locals and known for its beauty and warm waters. The ocean is clear and a beautiful turquoise blue here. Bring a sun umbrella, find a great spot and enjoy the natural surroundings. Be sure to pack a lunch as this is another beach with very few amenities. There are no restaurants, so you want to carry your water, beverages, and a light lunch.

Boca De Tomatlan

Sometimes it is just called Boca, and it is a tiny fishing village at the junction of river and sea. Boca is located some 20 minutes away from downtown Puerto Vallarta, and you can arrive by car or by water taxi. Many locals see this as the hub for water taxis that take you to the southern beaches.

Colomitos

You can only reach the most petite beach of all of Mexico as dubbed by the magazine “Mexico Desconocido” by boat. It is a tiny cove with beautiful sandy beaches and clear aquamarine waters.

If you don’t want to go by boat, you can take the hiking trail that goes across the cliffs of Boca.

Other gems you can only reach by boat include Madagascar, Las Animas, Quimixto, and Yelapa. Both Las Animas and Yelapa have small beach restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood.

Yelapa

Yelapa is a tropical paradise and offers terrific hiking opportunities as visitors walk up its waterfall. It is a small fishing village and has restaurants, beach clubs, and even a hotel where you can enjoy the sun and the hip atmosphere after you hike up and bathe in the calm waters of the waterfall.

Quimixto

Quiixto is located in the area of Cabo Corrientes which lies south of Puerto Vallarta. While it may be a little far to drive, when you go by water taxi, it is only a 30-minute ride from Boca de Tomatlan.

Quimixto has a beautiful waterfall that you can reach either by hiking or horse rental services, waiting to take you up to the fantastic waterfall. Quimixto is an exotic journey that you can take in a single day.

Las Caletas Beach

Although it is privately owned, visitors can enjoy this beach as part of a Vallarta Adventures tour. It was once the beach where film director John Huston led a secluded life and wrote many of his best screenplays. Caletas can only be reached by sea, and once there, visitors can enjoy snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding, and kayaking. The beach is also equipped with hammocks, restaurant, and bar services, all for tour guests.

Mismaloya

The beach is best known as the film location of the famous Night of The Iguana 1964 film with Richard Burton, who invited his then-girlfriend, Elizabeth Taylor.

The Los Arcos national park is in front of this beach. It is a rocky island where visitors can go scuba diving and snorkeling and see the abundant marine life. Here you can also find a few hotels and resorts and a local Tequila tour.
