Puerto Vallarta is one of the world’s top tourist destinations. Situated on the Pacific coast of Mexico, it has just about everything you could ask for from a tropical beach vacation: beautiful beaches, breathtaking ocean views, sublime sunsets, and wonderful mountain vistas of the verdant Sierra Madre that frames this lovely colonial town on the beach. Downtown Vallarta boasts cobblestone streets, sidewalk cafés, elegant art galleries, top-class restaurants, and a lively boardwalk ideal for romantic walks in the evening while enjoying sunsets over the Bay of Banderas.
As if all this weren’t enough, Puerto Vallarta is also a great golfing destination with world class golf courses set in beautiful surroundings and enjoying impressive luxury services. Opened in April 2001, the Vista Vallarta Jack Nicklaus Golf Course was an immediate success and hosted the EMC World Golf Championchips the following year. Since then it has been a big favorite of professionals and amateurs from all over the world, who savor the idiosyncrasy of the course as it blends into the natural landscape and creates attractive natural obstacles not found on more standard courses.
Vista Vallarta rises along the hillsides and the views from some greens across the bay, ocean, cityscape, and marina, are really quite spectacular. Palm forests, rolling hillsides, natural creeks, and huge ficus trees all play their role on this outstanding 18-hole, par-72 course. It’s certainly a challenging course which integrates the natural contours, and so may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who enjoy a golfing challenge and a different perspective in gorgeous natural surroundings, this is an ideal course.
With all these features it’s not surprising that 2006 saw the Champions Tour Tournament arrive at Vista Vallarta with the richest purse in Mexico. Cooling ocean breezes, incomparable views, and a superb design explain why this course has been so successful. If the Jack Nicklaus course isn’t difficult enough for you, try the Tom Weiskopf course next door. The highs are higher, the lows are lower, the forests are denser, and the creeks are deeper (should you want to dive in after your ball!). The Vista Vallarta Club boasts luxurious services at the clubhouse where the restaurant, bar, lounge, and verandahs are great for relaxing and socializing. There are also excellent practice facilities and on-course beverage service. For a golfing vacation in a lovely location with superb weather, Vista Vallarta is a great option.
