Listing Description

One of the most attractive beaches on the whole of the Mayan Riviera is Tankah Bay, and fortunately, one of our newest beachfront accommodations, Villa Orquidea, is situated right there. Relaxation and comfort are the priorities at this wonderful vacation villa on this beautiful beach.  Outstanding views of the Caribbean and Tankah Bay can be enjoyed from the three master bedrooms in the main residence. Meanwhile, complete tranquility and privacy are to be found in the little casita; a separate, fully-furnished, one bedroom cozy house. This 3600 square-foot Spanish Colonial residence is constantly cooled by the Caribbean breezes that pass through and around it and when you top all this off with the gorgeous sea views from almost every room in the villa, then you realize that this is a very special holiday accommodation designed to make you feel special.

Exquisite hardwood furniture decorated with artistic flourishes from well-known artists graces this beachfront villa. The entrance gate is made of elegant wrought iron and it leads to a handicap-friendly house entrance.  Upon opening the front door you will be welcomed by the sight of the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean. The outside is brought in by the expansive bay windows that front the whole side of the house that faces the beach. No more than a few steps through the spacious, open living and kitchen areas and you are already at the swimming pool.  The warmth and brightness of the colors of the beautifully decorated bedrooms reflect the warmth and brightness of Mexico, as do the custom mosaics found in each bathroom. Out on the wonderfully romantic veranda, you can relax with a cool margarita on the mahogany lounge chair.

This enchanting beachfront vacation home lies on Tankah Bay and is only six miles from Tulum to the south and eighty miles from Cancun to the north.  Tankah Bay’s wonderful beach is not its only source of fame; it is also renowned for a cenote which is a mere ten-minute stroll from Villa Orquidea. Close to the cenote there are two restaurants, or if you prefer you can just kick back at the villa and savor the delicious catering service. Swimming, snorkeling and kayaking are not the only activities awaiting you at this outstanding beachfront rental villa; Tulum, with its magnificent Mayan ruins, is just a 15-minute drive away. After visiting these architectural treasures you will also find a host of shops, superb restaurants and yet more charming beaches.

Villa Orquidea is nothing short of marvelous. The property is magnificent, with finishes of the highest quality and furnishings to match. No detail has been overlooked. Jose attended to our every need, even though his wife Marisol stayed with her mother in Akumal in anticipation of the imminent birth of their second child. Jose and sister Anna prepared fabulous dinners and breakfasts. Don't miss the Chiles Rellenos and the huevos rancheros. Jose's Mexican Flag after-dinner drink is a must-do! Colorful, flamboyant, fun, and tasty. We kayaked out to the reef every day, where the snorkeling was some of the best we've ever experienced. All manner of colorful tropical fish; even a sea turtle, Langosta, and several nurse sharks. Large schools of small fish (chub?), 1,000 or more at a time. With pleasant security personnel unobtrusively keeping an eye on things at night, we always felt safe. We enjoyed pizza and Caribbean Fish at the Blue Sky, where Leo runs a great restaurant. Tankah Bay is a beautiful, quiet setting. No high rises or mega-resorts. Perfect! Direct access into the water is difficult, and you'll want sturdy Tevas, Keens, or surf shoes for beach walking. The beach is not really a walking beach, though we did walk all the way down to Dreams. Day trips to Akumal Bay, the Tulum ruins, and the Tulum beaches provided some nice variety, and we were always happy to return to our haven on Tankah Bay. I would strongly recommend Villa Orquidea to anyone seeking a luxury, beachfront vacation with all home amenities.

If you are looking for the vacation of a lifetime, this is the place. We spent Spring Break there with friends, and everything was perfect. First, you are right on the beach, and all three bedrooms are oceanfront. The water is very calm, and the snorkeling is perfect. Plus, there are kayaks available to get out on the water. There is also a great pool between you and the ocean if lounging poolside is your idea of the perfect vacation. There is also a cute guest house (also oceanfront) on the property if you have a larger group. If the perfect place for the grandparents or the couple with an infant. The house is first class and very tastefully decorated. You can tell someone with a true sense of style put it all together. It is also very comfortable with lots of various areas to kick back and just read a book. A friend often says you should always rent a home nicer than your own home while on vacation, which certainly fits the bill! I also loved the location. Tulum is just a 10-minute ride. It's a neat town with a mix of upscale and local flavor. You can also walk (or kayak) to two fun restaurants -- Blue Sky and Casa Cenote -- right from Villa Orquidea. Lunch on the beach at Casa Cenote is a must -- the fresh fish is fabulous -- followed by snorkeling in the freshwater cenote next door. Add an outdoor dinner on the romantic Blue Sky patio, and it is the perfect day.
