Punta Mita is perhaps the most beautiful and luxurious resort community on the Pacific coast of Mexico. It is an exclusive peninsular flanked on three sides by pristine beaches and the ocean and framed by the majestic Sierra Madre mountain range. Just twenty-eight miles north of Puerto Vallarta International Airport, it is certainly easy to get to and is also within easy reach of Puerto Vallarta for a day trip or a bit of nightlife. If you decide to visit Punta Mita you’ll be impressed by the natural beauty, fabulous views, and luxury services which include beach clubs, elegant restaurants, and a wide range of activities, both aquatic and on dry land. One of the main attractions is the world-class Jack Nicklaus signature golf course.
It was opened in 1999 and, along with its sister course ‘Bahia’, has turned Punta Mita into a major golfing destination. It’s no surprise that Mexico has become such a golf magnet over the last few decades – it has all the factors that most of us are looking for on a golf trip: warm dry weather most months of the year, beautiful tropical vegetation to embellish any outdoor experience, wonderful ocean views, and the chance to discover new places and cultures while on your golf getaway. Punta Mita Pacifico is an ocean view course where it takes concentration to keep your mind on your game with so much natural beauty all around.
Eight holes at this par-72 course have ocean views and the optional and quite spectacular 19th hole is the only green set on a natural island in the world. It certainly feels a bit different and special to be teeing off from the beach on the mainland across to the par 3 hole on the island, accessible by a causeway. This ‘Tail of the Whale’ hole, thus named due to the shape of the green, is just 199 yards off the coast and is great fun to play and a great story to tell. This beautiful ocean course is green-friendly (pun intended) and uses only organic fertilizers and biodegradable insecticides near the beach.
The moisture monitoring system ensures that greens and fairways are only irrigated when necessary, thereby saving on water and promoting an optimum playing surface. Ecological, esthetic, and exclusive, Punta Mita Pacifico is a marvelous course in an unbeatable location.
